A life changed by illness
Mrs. Barbara now lives at the Senior Doctors’ Home in Warsaw. For many years she worked as a nurse. The first symptoms appeared subtly – in 1996, after lifting a patient, her foot began to go numb. As it later turned out, she had a congenital condition – syringomyelia. Two years later, Barbara had a traffic accident and broke her spine. From that moment, her symptoms intensified. Despite many surgeries and therapies, her condition gradually worsened.
Searching for independence
Despite difficulties, Barbara never gave up. She always looked for solutions that would allow her to remain independent for as long as possible. A wheelchair gave her mobility, but only the right cushion allowed her to use it without pain and with a full sense of safety.
As she says: "I don’t need caregivers’ help. I can manage on my own. Without this cushion I would be confined to bed. What’s the use of a wheelchair if I couldn’t use it? This cushion means independent living for me."
Stabilo – a tailor-made solution
At first, Barbara thought that Stabilo cushions were only for children. Today she knows they were designed to meet the individual needs of every user. She can shape them herself, adjusting them to the contours of her back and areas requiring special support.
"There is no other cushion that I can form exactly to what my spine needs. At first glance it seems firm, but in fact it perfectly supports and cushions all sensitive areas. It’s ideal. This cushion is a phenomenon."
For Barbara, Stabilo is not just a comfortable cushion. It’s a tool that allows her to function daily, reduce pain, and maintain independence. Thanks to it, her wheelchair has become support – not a limitation.
